What is your skin type ?
I would say my skin tends to be on the oily side with some pigmentation and sun damage from when I was younger.
What is your current skin care regime ? How has this changed over time ?
When I was in my early 20’s I had quite oily skin that was prone to hormonal breakouts but as I have gotten older I have become better at recognising when my skin is out of balance and understanding what my skin needs at the time. I use the entire MAAEMO range but switch up the products I use depending on what my skin is like at the time, but generally it goes as follows-
AM Routine -
Purifying Gel Cleanser
Hydrating Face Mist
Hydra Lift Eye gel
Hydrating Face cream
SPF
PM Routine -
Double cleanse (Rejuvenation cleanser+ Gel Cleanser)
Fruit Enzyme Refiner (2 times a week)
Revitalize Face Mist
Hydra Lift Eye Gel
Vitalize Face Elixir
Hydrating Face Cream
What is your approach to skin health ?
I have always followed a simplified, natural approach to looking after my skin. When I was in my teens, the focus on skin was all about covering it up with layers of expensive make up, whereas now the focus is definitely looking after the health of your skin so you don’t need to cover it up. For me it is always about- nourishing, supporting and of course protecting the skin.
If you had to pick only 3 Maaemo products to have for the rest of your life what would they be ?
That is almost impossible to answer!
We actually have 2 new products that are about to launch which I have been using for about a year. I definitely could not go without them now, but if I had to pick my favourites-
The Fruit Enzyme Refiner, Vitalize Face Elixir and our new product launching November!!
How did naturopathy influence your views on skin health / skin care ?
My background in Naturopathy definitely set the foundation for my journey with skin health and wellness. My studies in Naturopathy gave me a really in depth understanding of how the skin works, and also opened up my eyes to the importance of using clean organic ingredients and just how effective they really were.
What tips would you give to someone wanting to start looking after their skin ?
I think it is really important to recognise that our skin one of the bodies primary pathways of elimination, so if something is out of balance internally, it is likely to reflect in our skin. The first step in looking after your skin is always ensuring that you are well hydrated and you are eat a well balanced diet.
Secondly, its vital that you are using high quality skincare that covers the basics from cleansing, hydrating, restoring. If skincare is new to you- keep it simple at the start with these 3 steps and then build on that depending on what your individual skin needs are.
Thirdly is protection! This step is crucial. It’s all well and good to have healthy skin now but if we are not taking precautions to protect, then sun damage will be right around the corner to. Protection should include the use of an SPF daily, as well as other measures such as a hat and limited sun exposure.
